How to optimize your Windows computer

This is how to optimize your computer to make it run faster!


Here are the steps.


Step 1: Scan for Viruses and Malware.


Step 2: Disk Health Scan. ๐Ÿ‘‡


Step 2.1: Type File Explorer into the Windows Search.


Step 2.2: Click This PC in the left panel of File Explorer.


Step 2.3: Select your main drive and right click it and click Properties.


Step 2.4: Select Tools tab and press Check in the Error checking section.


Step 2.5: Press Scan drive to scan for disk errors.

Errors will be displayed if found.

If no errors found you will get a message "Windows successfully scanned. No errors found".


Step 3: Check disk health using WMIC command.

Step 3.1: Press Windows Key + R at the same time to open Run dialog box.


Step 3.2: Type cmd into the search box and press OK.


Step 3.3: Inside the command line window type wmic and hit Enter on the keyboard.


Step 3.4: In the new line that appears type: diskdrive get status and hit Enter on keyboard.


Step 3.5: Check if any errors are reported. If no errors displayed that means your drive is healthy.


Geek tip: WMIC means Windows Management Instrumentation Command-line. ๐Ÿ˜ƒ


Step 4: Disk Defragmentation.

Step 4.1: Press Windows Key, type File Explorer into the search bar, and hit Enter.


Step 4.2: In the left panel click on This PC tab.


Step 4.3: Select storage drive and right-click it and select Properties.


Step 4.4: Select Tools tab and click Optimize in the Optimize and defragment drive section.


Step 4.5: Select only Hard disk drive to defragment. The solid-state drive never needs defragmentation. Only Optimize drives that are above 10% fragmented.


Geek Tip: Enable Scheduled Optimization to let your computer optimize your drives automatically.


Step 4.5.1: Click Change settings in the Scheduled optimization section.


You will get this window.


Choose Frequency, this will set how often you want the computer to defragment drives.


Now press Choose in Drives section.


Step 4.5.2: Only select Hard Disk Drives. Uncheck Automatically optimize new drives and press OK.


Congrats your computer will now do defragmentation automatically!


Step 5: Free Storage Space

Make sure your drive space is not less than 10% to keep it running smoothly.

To check if your drive has enough space to the following:


Step 5.1: Type File Explorer in Windows Search Bar.


Step 5.2: Select This PC tab in the left panel.


Step 5.3: Select drive and right-click it, select properties.


Step 5.4 Check Used space and Free space section.

Step 5.5: Divide Free Space by Used Space to see the percentage left. I have just 12% left. If you have less than 10% remove files or programs you are not using.

Step 6: Optimize Processor Usage.


Disable Startup Programs.

Step 6.1: Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc on your keyboard at the same time.


Step 6.2: If your Task Manager opened in small window press More details.
